    Key takeaways

    • Pick a trade show in India by visitor profile, not size. Ask the organiser for visitors by job title and the share of overseas buyers before you pay for a stand.
    • Shows run by export promotion councils (handicrafts, garments, engineering) are built around overseas buyers. Shows run by industry associations mostly bring domestic plant heads and purchase managers.
    • Visiting a show first costs a fraction of a stand and shows you who really walks the aisles. If you do exhibit, arrive with a meeting list, not just a booth.
    • We give city and month only where the organiser confirms it. Dates move between editions, so check the organiser’s site before you plan travel or stand space.

The right trade show in India is the one your buyers actually attend, not the biggest name in the newspaper. Here is a sector-by-sector list of the major shows, what to check before you pay, and how to get leads whether you exhibit or only visit.

Which trade show in India should a manufacturer start with?

Start with the show your buyers already attend, which depends on your sector. Machine-tool and engineering makers look at IMTEX, Engimach and IESS; electrical makers at ELECRAMA; plastics at PLASTINDIA; auto-component makers at the Components Show and ACMA Automechanika; home and garment exporters at IHGF and IIGF.

The table lists the major shows by sector. For city and month we give only what the organiser’s own site or an official notice shows. Where dates move between editions, or we could not confirm one, the table says so. Shows also run on different cycles: some are annual, some come round every two or three years. Check the organiser’s site before you plan stand space or travel.

What are the main engineering exhibitions in India for machine tools and electrical?

IMTEX in Bengaluru is the main machine-tool and manufacturing-technology show, organised by IMTMA and held in January. Engimach in Gandhinagar, in December, covers capital goods and engineering. ELECRAMA, run by IEEMA at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, is the electrical industry’s show.

Each does a different job. IMTEX is where machine and tooling buyers shop, so exhibit if you make machines, cutting tools, automation or accessories, and visit if you run a job-work shop that needs to meet suppliers. Engimach describes itself as a platform for capital-goods makers, end-user industries and policy makers, which suits Gujarat’s industrial belt. For exporters, EEPC India runs IESS, the International Engineering Sourcing Show, to connect Indian engineering firms with overseas sourcing buyers; it has moved between cities, so ask EEPC for the current edition. Electrical makers should check the ELECRAMA site for the next edition.

One practical point: at capital-goods shows many exhibitors are also buyers. A casting, forging or sheet-metal shop can meet the purchase managers of machine builders on the floor, even without a stand.

Which industrial exhibitions in India cover plastics, chemicals and auto components?

PLASTINDIA in New Delhi covers plastics, India Chem in Mumbai covers chemicals, and the Auto Expo Components Show and ACMA Automechanika, both in New Delhi, cover auto components. IFAT India in Mumbai serves water and waste; Medical Fair India serves healthcare. Several run every two or three years, so check the cycle.

PLASTINDIA is organised by the Plastindia Foundation; its 2026 edition ran in February at Bharat Mandapam, and it does not come round every year. India Chem is run by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals with FICCI, with its 2026 edition in Mumbai in October. In auto, the Components Show sits inside the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, organised jointly by ACMA, CII and SIAM and held every two years at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka. ACMA Automechanika New Delhi, run by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India with ACMA, targets the aftermarket and service side. Tier-1 purchase teams ask for IATF 16949 and PPAP history before they take a meeting, so carry both. Medical Fair India runs separate New Delhi and Mumbai editions, and months differ, so use the organiser’s site.

Which trade fairs in India bring overseas buyers for handicrafts, home and garments?

The IHGF Delhi Fair, run by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts at India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida, is held in spring (February) and autumn (October). The India International Garment Fair in New Delhi, with AEPC, is the garment sector’s sourcing show. Both are built around trade and overseas buyers.

IHGF is a big, multi-category fair: gifts, furniture, lighting, kitchen and dinnerware, home textiles and more, aimed at importers, wholesalers, retail chains and designers. Check the IHGF site for the current edition. The garment fair is organised by IGFA with the Apparel Export Promotion Council; its 74th edition was listed for January 2026, so confirm the next date with AEPC. Buyers at these fairs still want a sample, a price and a shipping window, so bring a one-page sheet with MOQ, lead time and certifications. For routes beyond fairs, see our guide on how to find buyers for export.

How do you choose between trade fairs in India?

Compare visitor profile, overseas buyer share, cost and timing. Ask the organiser for visitors by job title and country, the split between trade and general visitors, and how many are first-time attendees. A smaller show with the right ten buyers beats a large one with none.

Do the same checks for every show on your shortlist, then compare them side by side.

    • Visitor profile: job titles and industries, not a headline footfall number. Ask whether the figures are audited.
    • Overseas buyers: how many, from which countries, and whether the organiser runs a buyer programme or matchmaking.
    • Cost per serious conversation: total spend (space, stand, travel, staff) divided by the buyers you can realistically meet.
    • Timing: does the show fall before your buyers’ buying season, and can you handle the orders it brings?
    • Past exhibitors: ask two or three whether they won orders, not just collected scans.

Should you exhibit at an industrial exhibition in India or just visit?

Visit first if you have never been. A visitor ticket costs a fraction of a stand, and one walk-through shows you who is really there, which competitors exhibit and how busy the aisles are. Exhibit once the numbers say the visitors are your buyers.

As a visitor, register early, read the exhibitor list and book meetings with exhibitors’ sales and purchase heads before you arrive. Carry a one-page capability sheet, collect cards, note what each person asked for and follow up inside two days. If you decide to exhibit, our guide to trade show marketing for manufacturers covers the before, during and after.

Most shows are really two shows: one where buyers come to buy, and one where exhibitors come to meet each other. Find out which one you are paying for.— Murtaza Udaypurwala, DESENO

How do you get leads from a trade show in India once you are there?

Book the meeting before you arrive, qualify on the spot and follow up within 48 hours. Indian shows are crowded and mostly walk-in, so the people who win are the ones who arrive with a target list and leave with a next step for every serious conversation.

Swap WhatsApp numbers on the spot and send the catalogue the same evening; in India that is how many buyers prefer to continue. If buyers cannot visit your plant, show it: a short factory film on a screen answers capacity and quality questions faster than a brochure. Then treat the show as one channel among several, alongside lead generation for manufacturers and exporters through search, LinkedIn and email, so you are not waiting for the next edition to find buyers.

Do this: Before you book, write down the three buyer job titles you must meet, ask the organiser how many of them attend, and confirm the dates on the organiser’s own site. If the organiser cannot answer, choose another show.

    The bottom line

There is no best trade show in India, only the right one for your sector and buyers. Use the table to build a shortlist, ask each organiser for the visitor profile and overseas buyer share, visit before you exhibit, and confirm every date on the organiser’s site. Then turn the show into meetings and a follow-up, not just a stand.

    Frequently asked questions

Which trade show in India is best for manufacturers?

It depends on your sector. IMTEX in Bengaluru is a major machine-tool show, ELECRAMA covers electrical, PLASTINDIA covers plastics, and the IHGF Delhi Fair is a large sourcing show for handicrafts and home products. Size matters less than whether your buyers attend, so ask each organiser for the visitor profile by job title first.

Which trade fairs in India are best for exporters?

Shows run by export promotion councils tend to be built around overseas buyers: the IHGF Delhi Fair for handicrafts and home products, the India International Garment Fair for garments, and IESS, run by EEPC India, for engineering goods. Ask each organiser how many overseas buyers attend and from which countries before you commit to a stand.

Should a manufacturer exhibit at an industrial exhibition in India or just visit?

Visit first if you have never been to the show. A visitor ticket costs far less than a stand, and one walk-through shows who attends and which competitors exhibit. Exhibit once the visitor profile matches your buyers and you can work out how many orders you need to cover the cost of the stand, travel and staff.

How do you choose which trade fair to exhibit at?

Compare visitor profile by job title, overseas buyer share, total cost and timing against your buyers’ buying season. Ask the organiser whether visitor figures are audited and ask two or three past exhibitors whether they won orders. A smaller show where ten right buyers attend is worth more than a large one where none do.

Can you get leads at a trade show without exhibiting?

Yes. Register as a visitor, read the exhibitor list and book meetings with exhibitors’ sales and purchase heads before you arrive. At capital-goods and engineering shows, exhibitors are also buyers of castings, sheet metal and machined parts. Carry a one-page capability sheet, collect cards and follow up within two days.

How do you check trade fair dates in India?

Use the organiser’s own website or an official notice, because third-party listings often copy old or conflicting dates. Cities and months can shift between editions, and some shows run every two or three years. Confirm the edition, venue and hall before you book space or travel.
